Although this recurring series of posts is a slight diversion from this blog's primary purpose, I want to dispel any rumors that ecchi and hentai are not educational by exploring how true real-world physics relates to the wonderful allure of anime breasts. I would like to extend a special thanks to all my college professors who have made this possible, unbeknownst to them.LESSON 1: THERMAL EXPANSION
This first lesson will explore the subject that Shinji was studying in Evangelion episode 10: thermal expansion. Having already grasped an understanding of this topic herself, Asuka kindly offers Shinji some assistance. Like all good instructors, Asuka decides to use visual aids in her explanation, and calmly poses, "If I were to warm up my breasts, do you think they'd grow bigger?" Not surprisingly, Shinji gets embarrassed, and Asuka promptly walks away, leaving us viewers to agonize over this intriguing question... until now!
...which has the units of inverse temperature. Assuming the ambient pressure remains constant, this coefficient is defined per the following equation...
...where V and T are the volume and temperature of the breast, respectively. Okay... So now that we know breast size increases with temperature, the obvious follow-up question is "How effective is it?" To answer this, let's pick up where this Eva scene left off and do an example problem using Asuka's breasts as the subject to determine the practicality of heating one's breasts to increase their size.
EXERCISE
------------------------
Calculate how much larger Asuka's breasts could expand by heating them. Assume that her breasts have a density of 0.9 g/mL (typical for female breasts) and each weighs 100g.
First, we need to determine Asuka's starting breast volume by using the definition of density:
The normal human body temperature of 36.5 deg C should be used for the breasts' starting temperature. Although it would not be humane to heat Asuka's cute mounds of flesh to their melting point (65 deg C for human tissue), it does represent the absolute maximum size increase one could achieve. Rearranging the equation in the explanation above and solving for the change in volume...
Note that this increase is less than 1% of her initial breast size. We can therefore sadly conclude that heating one's breasts is NOT an effective means to increase their size. Sorry, Asuka! Fortunately for her and the rest of anime females, though, there are safer and more effective alternatives as depicted in the animated scenes below.
Do you have any conclusions, theories, analyses, or calculations that contradict mine? I encourage you to stay tuned for more "Real Physics of Anime Breasts."

I quite disagree about the initial temperature. Although the ambient temperature is of 22oC her breast's temperature should be of about 36.5oC, which is the temperature of the human body in normal conditions.
I hope this will bring a new light to such interesting research.
Anon: You are absolutely correct! I truly appreciate the attention to detail and have revised the calculation accordingly. Unfortunately, the result was for the worse... The increase in size decreased from 1.0mL to 0.66mL. This even further indicates that heating breasts is not a practical means to increase their size. ^_^
